Abstract
Future anxiety is an existing and continuous issue that has a significant impact on the mental health and academic success among university students. How it is handled and counteracted thus differs depending on various factors such as self-efficacy, locus of control (internal/external), emotion focused and problem focused coping, which are highlighted in this study. The method used to investigate the effects of these factors is a web-based survey that was distributed through various social media platforms and by physical inquiry. The sample consisted of university students (N = 93) at Swedish universities all above the age of 18. The results showed that self-efficacy had a significant negative relationship with future anxiety, whereas the... (More)

The results showed that self-efficacy had a significant negative relationship with future anxiety, whereas the coping strategies (problem- and emotion focused) and locus of control (internal/external) did not have a significant result. This result showed both contradictory and confirmatory connections to previous research and resulted in insights into the central role self-efficacy plays in managing future anxiety. For future research, it would therefore be interesting to investigate which underlying factors may exist depending on current social conditions that in turn may influence the connections between self-efficacy, coping strategies and locus of control in relation to future anxiety, with the aim of promoting student health and finding new causes for the increasing future anxiety. Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
