Abstract
Society's view of social services has deteriorated with the cause of disinformation and violence from clients on social media. Previous research shows that it has become increasingly common for social workers and their relatives to be exposed to threats and abuse online. The chosen method is semi-structured interviews with six municipally employed social workers who are currently working professionally. The material from the interviews was analyzed using Bourdieu's theories of capital, field, and habitus. The study concluded that all respondents experienced an awareness... (More)

Therefore, this study aims to investigate social workers' experiences and attitudes towards being mentioned on social media in connection with their professional practice. The chosen method is semi-structured interviews with six municipally employed social workers who are currently working professionally. The material from the interviews was analyzed using Bourdieu's theories of capital, field, and habitus. The study concluded that all respondents experienced an awareness of being mentioned on social media as a social worker in connection with their professional practice. It is highlighted that there are frequent negative mentions of social workers in general on social media, even though a minority of the respondents had been mentioned on social media themselves. The results show that criticism is often found in specific Facebook groups or accounts on other social media platforms, to criticize social services or individual social workers. All participants were aware of the risk of being negatively targeted on social media by clients, but few were worried that it would happen to them themselves. (Less)
