Collective Intuitivism

Abstract
The legacy of colonialism still wields a powerful grip: „through the property it occupies, the capital it is financed by, the materials it is constructed from, the underpaid migrant labour that continues to construct it, and the expertise that benefits from it through accumulations of social and financial capital“ (Herscher, 2021). Sadly, nothing of this incomplete list is within the past; we are in a middle of a post-colonial, (neo)-colonialism – an ongoing system that goes by many names.
One of these names is architecture.

With the aim to find an escape from this establishment of harmful power structures, and practices, this thesis investigates collective intuition as a counterculture while experimenting with participatory action research as a part of exploring following questions:

What is intuition and does it counter strategical architectural methodologies?

What is Collective Intuivism and how can it help to transform architecture to become more democratic, transparent, and open as a profession and education?
What traditional architectural tools and methods need adjustment and redefinement?

This thesis delves into both theoretical and practical aspects to uncover various typologies of intuition, while also identifying new ones. Intuition is not something that can be completely defined; instead, it can be understood in segments, allowing each person to interpret it individually, as it is a subjective and deeply personal experience. Collective Intuitivism, both a concept and a methodology, examines the significance and notion of intuition. It aims to respectfully explore the meaning of intuition for individuals and communities within the built environment, the tools necessary to express intuition, and how architects can foster collective intuitions through community involvement and the incorporation of participatory action research in architectural education, the profession, and practice.
