Managing Corruption Risks: Swedish Companies Beyond Borders
(2025) EOSK12 20251Department of Economic History
- Abstract
- This study examines effective strategies for Swedish multinational companies to manage corruption risks in high-risk markets. Using Scania as a case study, it explores the gap between formal anti-corruption policies and actual practices, and the role of post-scandal reforms and NGOs, particularly Transparency International, in shaping corporate responses. While Swedish companies perform well domestically, they often struggle to uphold the same transparency standards in high-risk foreign environments. Key findings show that effective internal compliance and stakeholder engagement help curb foreign bribery. Though challenging to implement, collective action remains the most impactful long-term approach.
