The overall purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis is to gain a deeper understanding on how perceptions of social control change when a community-based society becomes more institutionalized and how the social relations might change by this. By utilizing theories such as social control and legal pluralism this study examines the context of Christiania and Pusherstreet, throughout time.
The data has been collected through informal conversations, deep-interviews and field observations spanning over several days in Christiania, Denmark. The result of this thesis shows that social control has gradually changed in Christiania from local, community-based control to increased institutional governance. In turn this has also affected the relationship between the community and outside agents such as the state, municipality and the police. (Less)
