- Abstract
- In today’s fast-paced society, working parents face increasing challenges in providing young children with engaging, developmentally beneficial activities while balancing their responsibilities and limited time. As a result, many parents rely on screens beyond recommended guidelines as a convenient way to occupy their children. However, research shows that excessive screen use is not ideal for child development. The most beneficial activities are hands-on, challenging, and creative - such as building with LEGO - but these often create messes that can overwhelm tired parents.

However, research shows that excessive screen use is not ideal for child development. The most beneficial activities are hands-on, challenging, and creative - such as building with LEGO - but these often create messes that can overwhelm tired parents.
This project aims to design a practical, easy-to-handle, and movable play-board that encourages creative, skill-building play while being convenient for parents to manage. Drawing inspiration from Ikea’s design philosophy, the play-board has been designed with affordability and sustainability in mind, offering a solution well-suited to the needs of modern Western families.
To strengthen product attachment, the design includes sentimental value: when hung on the wall, the backside becomes a canvas for children to express their artistic skills, turning it into an ever-changing piece of art. The product will also be available in a blank CMF, allowing families to personalize it together, creating a unique, meaningful object that extends its lifespan.
This project is also a tribute to my father. Inspired by his original idea, I’ve refined it into a product that considers the broader aspects of product development. (Less)
