Abstract (Swedish)
This bachelor's thesis examines how narratives about queer and/or norm-critical performance strategies can counteract the reproduction of stage stereotypes and preconceived normative role interpretations on the independent theatre stages in Sweden. Through my analysis, I have been able to show how the theatre groups' subversive resistance strategies try to shake and challenge the heterosexual matrix as a clear power structure in the theatre industry. By looking for utopias, deconstruction of stereotypes around gender, sex and desire in safer environments of queerness and spaces free from male-heteronormative gazes, new symbols of representation can take shape on the stages. The subversive potential, according to the participant, lies in the spectators' opportunity for change. Through new representations of performance, processes of subversive effects can be created in the form of further conversations and discussions and can thus find their way beyond the theatre stages.
