Abstract
This study examines how the youth series Bara sex (SVT, 2024) contributes to the reproduction of discourses surrounding intimate relationships. By analyzing primarily the dialogues in the two existing seasons of the series, it has been possible to identify discourses related to intimacy. The analysis uses critical discourse analysis, specifically Fairclough’s model, following the three stages. The results reveal six clear discourses which are sexuality, intimate debut, dialogue about intimacy, not falling in love, jealousy, and consent. In all these discourses,... (More)

The results reveal six clear discourses which are sexuality, intimate debut, dialogue about intimacy, not falling in love, jealousy, and consent. In all these discourses, we find recurring themes of gender roles, and the identified discourses also interact with one another. It is also found that the series Bara sex offers a good representation of intimate relationships, with elements of resistance and normbreaking in all the discourses, while at the same time appearing to reproduce traditional values.
