Abstract
This study examines the impacts of a gender equality goal set by the Swedish government in 2018, addressing that at least 25% of newly recruited workers in the construction sector in Sweden should be women by 2030. The study focuses on women ́s share of employment and the gender wage gap within the sector. The study is based on public data of the labour market published on SCB, Statistics Sweden. The data is presented and analyzed through descriptive statistics as well as regressions using the Difference-in-Differences method. Several control sectors are used over the period of 2015 to 2024 to capture effects before and after the goal was introduced. The results indicate a positive development in women’s employment share in the... (More)

The data is presented and analyzed through descriptive statistics as well as regressions using the Difference-in-Differences method. Several control sectors are used over the period of 2015 to 2024 to capture effects before and after the goal was introduced. The results indicate a positive development in women’s employment share in the construction industry. However, a statistically significant effect is observed only when comparing to one individual sector with similar characteristics, and not when comparing to several other male dominated sectors. In contrast to expectations, the gender wage gap has increased, which may be explained by more newly recruited or less experienced women entering the sector. (Less)
