Abstract
This study investigates the impact of the 2008 global financial crisis on adolescent mental health across 27 European countries using Health Behaviour in School aged Children (HBSC) survey data and a two-way fixed effects model. By examining five key symptoms, irritability, nervousness, feeling low, sleep difficulties, and body dissatisfaction, this study offers a detailed cross-national assessments of adolescent mental health post-crisis. While we find no consistent change in aggregate psychological distress, disaggregated analyses reveal significant increases in analyzed symptoms.
