Abstract
In this thesis I analyze the official government report "En ny ordning för asylsökandes boende" (SOU 2022:64) together with three consultation reports. The aim of the study is to reveal assumed and naturalized presumptions about asylum as a concept, and the logic that lies behind the contemporary changes. Further the aim is to show a discursive change and contribute to knowledge about contemporary changes in the migrations policies in Sweden. For the analysis Faircloughs Critical Discourse Analysis is employed. A theoretical framework on borders and citizenship, drawing on Anderson’s together with Yuval-Davis’, Wemyss’ and Cassidy’s framework, is used together with Foucault’s theory of discourse. The analysis shows that asylum is perceived... (More)

The analysis shows that asylum is perceived as a disorder, since asylum seekers risk ending up in society, where they do not belong. Further, asylum shelters work as a border and as a site for several bordering processes. The analysis also shows that the official government report draws on a citizenship discourse that legitimize proposed measures. Finally, the analysis reveals a presumed connection between asylum and socioeconomic disadvantaged areas. As two things positioned outside society, asylum and socioeconomic disadvantaged areas are perceived as threats, legitimizing asylum shelters as a way to protect society. (Less)
