Abstract (Swedish)
Syftet med denna studie har varit att analysera och jämföra effekterna av olika typer av farthinder på fordonshastighet och trafiksäkerhet på utvalda gator i Helsingborg. Arbetet har fokuserat på bostadsgator, skolzoner och huvudgator med varierande trafikmiljöer. Studien baseras på kvantitativa hastighetsmätningar, kvalitativa fältobservationer och enkätundersökningar med boende och andra trafikanter. Jämförelse har även gjorts med Helsingborgs kommuns egna hastighetsmätningar.

Syftet med denna studie har varit att analysera och jämföra effekterna av olika typer av farthinder på fordonshastighet och trafiksäkerhet på utvalda gator i Helsingborg. Arbetet har fokuserat på bostadsgator, skolzoner och huvudgator med varierande trafikmiljöer. Studien baseras på kvantitativa hastighetsmätningar, kvalitativa fältobservationer och enkätundersökningar med boende och andra trafikanter. Jämförelse har även gjorts med Helsingborgs kommuns egna hastighetsmätningar.
Resultaten visar att platågupp, förhöjda gång- och cykelpassager samt dynamiska farthinder är de mest effektiva åtgärderna för att sänka fordonens hastighet vid passagen, särskilt i skolzoner och på bostadsgator. Kombinationsåtgärder, såsom sidoförskjutning och förhöjd passage, har visat sig ge effekt både före, vid och efter hindret, medan traditionella gupp främst har lokal påverkan. På huvudgator krävs ofta mer avancerade och sekventiella lösningar för att uppnå varaktig effekt.
En viktig slutsats är att både mätbar hastighetsreduktion och subjektiv trygghet måste vägas in vid bedömning av trafiksäkerhetsåtgärder. Boendes och trafikanters upplevelse av trygghet påverkas även av faktorer som belysning, sikt och gatans utformning. Jämförelsen med kommunala mätningar bekräftar tillförlitligheten i studiens resultat och visar tydliga förbättringar på flera platser efter införda åtgärder.
Sammantaget visar studien att lokalt anpassade, kombinerade åtgärder är mest effektiva för att skapa säkra och trygga trafikmiljöer, och att systematiska före- och eftermätningar samt boendeenkäter är avgörande för att utvärdera och utveckla trafiksäkerhetsarbetet. (Less)

The aim of this thesis was to analyze and compare the effects of various types of speed-reducing measures (speed humps, raised pedestrian and cycle crossings, dynamic speed bumps, and combined solutions) on vehicle speeds and traffic safety on selected streets in Helsingborg, Sweden. The study focused on residential streets, school zones, and main roads with different traffic environments. The methodology combined quantitative speed measurements, qualitative field observations, and surveys with residents and road users. Results were also compared with official speed measurements provided by the City of Helsingborg.

The aim of this thesis was to analyze and compare the effects of various types of speed-reducing measures (speed humps, raised pedestrian and cycle crossings, dynamic speed bumps, and combined solutions) on vehicle speeds and traffic safety on selected streets in Helsingborg, Sweden. The results show that speed plateaus, raised pedestrian and cycle crossings, and dynamic speed bumps are the most effective measures for reducing vehicle speeds at the point of intervention, especially in school zones and residential streets. Combined measures, such as lane shifts together with raised crossings, proved to be effective both before, at, and after the intervention, while traditional humps primarily have a local effect. On main roads, more advanced and sequential solutions are often required to achieve a lasting impact.
An important conclusion is that both objective speed reduction and subjective feelings of safety must be considered when evaluating traffic safety measures. Residents' and road users’ sense of security is also influenced by factors such as lighting, visibility, and street design. The comparison with municipal measurements confirms the reliability of the study's results and highlights clear improvements at several locations following the implementation of speed-reducing measures.
In summary, the study shows that locally adapted, combined measures are the most effective for creating safe and secure traffic environments. Systematic before-and-after measurements and resident surveys are essential for evaluating and developing traffic safety work. (Less)
