Abstract (Swedish)
I detta arbete redogör jag för brister och tillgångar i psalmutövande och psalmskrivande, i tider med ny psalmbok på gång. Jag har gått igenom hur tidigare psalmbokskommitté tänkte och gjorde samt intervjuade sekreterare i dåvarande grupp, Per-Olof Nisser. Jag har med dessa glasögon gått igenom nyskrivna verk och dess möjligheter och svårigheter att kunna bli del av en framtida psalmbok. Det jag har kunnat se är att det finns ett spelrum i det enkla där nya genrer och kulturer kan mötas inom ramen för vår kyrkomusikaliska tradition och vår uppförandepraxis. Framför allt måste en fördjupad tradition möta det enkla och mångsidiga för att funka tidlöst, och detta görs genom en transparent process med många beställningsverk. Församlingar måste... (More)

In this master’s thesis, I will go through the strengths and weaknesses in contemporary hymn writing, in times when the Church of Sweden is in the process of revising their hymn book. I have compared this process with the previous process, what the committees thought and did and interviewed the secretary of the previous committee, Per-Olof Nisser. With this knowledge I have analyzed some new made hymns and showed their chances and problems if they became part of a new hymn book. What I’ve seen is that there is room for new genres and styles to coexist within the boundaries of our church music tradition and practice.
