Beyond Our Control - An examination on the impact that weather has on electricity prices in Denmark.
(2025) NEKH04 20251Department of Economics
- Abstract
- This paper is an empirical study on the effect that different weather conditions have on electricity prices in Denmark between the 29th of April 2023 and the 29th of April 2025. The study analyses how daily time series data for wind speed, temperature and solar exposure impacts daily electricity prices in respective bidding areas. The findings of this paper concludes that each of the measured weather variables has a significant impact on electricity prices in both bidding areas, with wind speed having the greatest impact, followed by temperature and solar exposure. As many countries move towards a greater reliance on weather based intermittent energy sources, the findings of this paper provides an insight into the impact that such a... (More)

As such the findings of this paper can be of particular interest to policymakers determining future energy policies. (Less)
