- Abstract (Swedish)
Studenter i Lund deltar i högre grad i... (More)

- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to examine differences in student alcohol culture and perceptions of the presence of illegal drugs in relation to study location, term and age. The results focus on alcohol consumption, participation in alcohol related student activities, the students´ perceived social pressure, the perceived acceptance of abstaining from alcohol, and perceptions of the presence and normalization of illegal drugs. The study is based on a quantitative survey study where the data was analysed using a contingency table, Chi-square tests, and Cramer’s V to examine statistical significance and the strength of association. The results indicate that the study location has the most significant influence on alcohol culture. Students in... (More)

Students in Lund participate to a greater extent in alcohol related student activities, perceive a greater social pressure to consume alcohol, attribute alcohol consumption to greater importance for social cohesion, and experience lower acceptance of abstaining from alcohol compared to students in Helsingborg. Statistically significant associations were found in students’ perceptions of the presence of illegal drugs, both within and outside student-related contexts, between first- and fourth-term students. These associations are statistically significant and exhibit moderately strong associations. The results are interpreted based on social learning theory and show that students’ perceptions of alcohol related behaviours as well as the presence of illegal drugs are largely shaped and influenced by social norms, model learning, and social reinforcements within the study environment.
