- The singing-voice ? Differences and similarities between male and female singing-voices in a pedagogical perspective
The primary purpose of the present study is to create a basis for a deeper understanding of the male singing-voice. Within the above purpose the present study also aims at comparing differences and similarities between the male and the female singing-voice, and examining possible pedagogical differences in teaching male and female singing students.
The study is partly a literature study where existing studies in the field of the singing-voice are examined, in which the male singing-voice is described in relation to the female one. The primary purpose of the present study is to create a basis for a deeper understanding of the male singing-voice. Within the above purpose the present study also aims at comparing differences and similarities between the male and the female singing-voice, and examining possible pedagogical differences in teaching male and female singing students.
The study is partly a literature study where existing studies in the field of the singing-voice are examined, in which the male singing-voice is described in relation to the female one. The study also comprises an interview study where four professional singing-teachers, two male and two female, are being interviewed according to an interview guide (see appendix A) focusing on pedagogical aspects of the male and the female singing-voice.
The results of the study show that the anatomical functions of the singing-voice are the same whether you are male or female. This also holds true for the basic singing-technique which is the same for both sexes. On the other hand there is an evident difference between the male and female vocal registers. When it comes to singing-techniques differences can be found depending on what vocal part is in focus, for example soprano or bass voice. The results of the interviews imply that there may be hormonally and psychological differences between the sexes when it comes to the pedagogical situation.

Det grundläggande syftet med föreliggande arbete är att skapa en grund för en djupare förståelse av den manliga sångrösten. Inom ramen för detta fokus syftar arbetet även till att jämföra skillnader och likheter mellan den manliga och kvinnliga sångrösten, samt undersöka eventuella pedagogiska skillnader vid sångundervisning av manliga och kvinnliga sångelever.
Arbetets grundläggande del är en litteraturstudie där genomgång av befintlig litteratur och forskning kring sångrösten görs, vari den manliga sångrösten belyses i relation till den kvinnliga sångrösten. Arbetet omfattar även en intervjustudie där fyra yrkesverksamma sångpedagoger, två män och två kvinnor, intervjuas utifrån en intervjuguide (se bilaga A) med fokus på pedagogiska aspekter av den manliga och kvinnliga sångrösten.
Resultatet i studien visar på att rent anatomiskt skiljer sig inte sångröstens funktioner åt vare sig man är man eller kvinna. Detta gäller även den grundläggande sångtekniken som är den samma för båda könen. Däremot finns det en klar skillnad mellan mannens och kvinnans sångregister, men också sångtekniska skillnader förekommer beroende på vilket röstfack man tillhör, exempelvis sopran eller bas. Resultatet av intervjuerna antyder att det eventuellt även kan förekomma hormonella och psykologiska skillnader mellan könen inom ramen för sång-undervisningen. (Less)
