Abstract
The Aim of the Study: The overall aim of this thesis is to gain an understanding of the current relationship between art music and the society as well as an understanding of the relationship between the old and the contemporary art music. The relationship between the older and the contemporary art music, in which the former holds a predominant position is discussed from several different aspects such as: the historical development of art music, division of taste, relation of music to both modern and postmodern society as well as the influence of educational institutions.

Conclusion: Art Music of today seem to operate of the smaller scale and is not fit for the institutions of the industrialism (the symponic orchestra) in the way that... (More)
