- The sexuality of hivinfected people is quite controversial but nevertheless important when speaking of hivprevention. The aim of this work was to survey and analyze support and counseling practices around sexual issues given to hivpositive people by their treating medical doctors. We wanted to bring the question of hivinfected peoples sexuality and sexual behavior sometimes unprotected and the Swedish legislation and hivprevention efforts under discussion. - The sexuality of hivinfected people is quite controversial but nevertheless important when speaking of hivprevention. The aim of this work was to survey and analyze support and counseling practices around sexual issues given to hivpositive people by their treating medical doctors. We wanted to bring the question of hivinfected peoples sexuality and sexual behavior sometimes unprotected and the Swedish legislation and hivprevention efforts under discussion. We found that the Swedish legislation offers a positive basis for successful hivprevention, but that there are some important obstacles to be overcome in order to really succeed and further reduce the number of new hivinfected people in Sweden. These obstacles are the lack of actual knowledge about hivpositive people's sexual lives and their sex strategies anno 2008. The fact that hivprevention work towards hivpositive persons is legislatively placed upon the medical doctors in Sweden is a further questionable issue when it comes to successful hivprevention. The general taboo about sex and sexuality is another obstacle - it leads to increased sexual stigmatization. Finally we found that the sexual stigmatization in combination with silence about sexuality and the sexual behavior practiced by hivpositive people forces them to create coping strategies in order to have sex at all. These strategies include not telling partners that they are hivinfected and also a creative production of arguments that justify and legitimate the practice of unprotected sex. (Less)
