- Title: The impact of environment on music students' commitment to music - a study of attitudes among music students and their parents. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the importance of environmental influence on childrens' musical interests and factors inspiring children to play instruments and sing. The parents' opinions, regarding the extent of the effect of the environment on the musical interest of their child, are compared in the text, with the childrens' own opinions in this matter. - Title: The impact of environment on music students' commitment to music - a study of attitudes among music students and their parents. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the importance of environmental influence on childrens' musical interests and factors inspiring children to play instruments and sing. The parents' opinions, regarding the extent of the effect of the environment on the musical interest of their child, are compared in the text, with the childrens' own opinions in this matter. The results I found were that both parents and students think that most of the inspiration, to play instruments and sing, comes from home. It is partly the musical interest of the parents that affects the child, but listening to music and mass media are also strong factors. The girls also think that they are influenced by school, friends and live concerts, while the boys do not think that they are influenced by these factors. The results lead me to the conclusion that my questions were answered, but I would readily see more research on what the boys think influence their musical interest.
Syftet med denna uppsats är att belysa vad miljön har för betydelse för ett barns musikaliska intresse och vad det är som inspirerar barnet till att börja spela och sjunga. Föräldrarnas syn på miljöns betydelse för barnets musikintresse jämförs också, i texten, med barnets egen syn på saken. Undersökningen genomfördes i två musikklasser i Malmö, med hjälp av en enkätundersökning där samtliga elever medverkade, samt kvalitativa intervjuer med fyra elever och deras föräldrar. Det resultat som jag kom fram till var att både föräldrar och elever tycker att den mesta inspirationen till att spela och sjunga kommer hemifrån. Det är dels föräldrarnas musikintresse som påverkar barnet, men även musiklyssning och massmedia är starka påverkansfaktorer. Flickorna tycker även att de påverkas positivt av skolan, kompisar och av konsertbesök, medan pojkarna inte tycks påverkas speciellt mycket av dessa faktorer. Utifrån resultaten har jag dragit slutsatsen att jag har fått svar på mina forskningsfrågor, men jag skulle gärna se mer forskning om vad pojkarna tycker påverkar deras musikintresse. (Less)
