Abstract
Composers? and choreographers? world of ideas. Aspects of the art process. This inquiry is about the artistic process when composing contemporary music and choreographing modern dance. I have studied three composers? and three choreographers? thoughts about the artistic process and the work that leads to a piece of music or a dance. The purpose of the study is to find similarities and differences between the two art forms and to search for important ideas. I also want to see how this result can be useful for me as a teacher in eurhythmics. To gather material I have made qualitative interviews. I have also used personal e-mails, earlier published interviews, articles and books. The result and the analysis chapter is a presentation of the... (More)

The result and the analysis chapter is a presentation of the material which I categorize and present in three larger themes and some smaller sub-categories: 1. Starting points 2. Working procedures 3. Meeting the audience. Some of the sub-categories are preparations, inspiration, means of assistance, entirety/details, and communication. The conclusion contains a summary of the theory chapter and the result where some similarities, differences and important ideas are shown. One difference is for example the process work, in which order different factors take place and which tools the artist chooses to use. Some examples of similarities and important ideas have appeared like the search for a key or a formula, the awareness of the entirety and the details, the relationship to time which both art forms have and the desire of communication with the audience. In this chapter I also show how I can use the result in my own teaching and as a conclusion I deal with some comments on research. (Less)
