Abstract
The purpose of this exploratory study was to develop a questionnaire, which can be used to examine prevailing assumptions about the human nature in different organisations. The questionnaire comprised 15 questions, each answered by one of five alternatives related to respectively economic-rational, bureaucratic, social, self-actualisation or complex assumptions about the human nature. The questionnaire was distributed to 83 subjects in two private organisations belonging to multinational companies - one restaurant and one mechanical industry - and one public service organisation for welfare of elderly people. The results indicated that the reliability of the questionnaire was low (Cronbach´s alpha value .57) and that some of the questions... (More)

The results indicated that the reliability of the questionnaire was low (Cronbach´s alpha value .57) and that some of the questions should be reformulated or substituted. The public service organisation was characterised by complex and social assumptions about the human nature whereas bureaucratic and economic-rational assumptions dominated in restaurant and selfactualisation assumptions in the mechanical industry. These differences between the three organisations justify further development of the questionnaire. (Less)
