International child abduction : domestic violence on the global arena

Abstract
Cooperation is elementary for any relationship to prosper and basic values must be respected and reconciled. Consequently Global Cooperation becomes imperative when all kinds of relationships rapidly expand to span the entire globe. Thus personal as well as national concerns become global. The intention with this essay was to convey some information about the issue of transnational child custody disputes to confirm the hypothesis that The Rights of The Child are still largely neglected and; that lacking cooperation between responsible authorities cause undue suffering. Cooperation is elementary for any relationship to prosper and basic values must be respected and reconciled. Consequently Global Cooperation becomes imperative when all kinds of relationships rapidly expand to span the entire globe. Thus personal as well as national concerns become global. The intention with this essay was to convey some information about the issue of transnational child custody disputes to confirm the hypothesis that The Rights of The Child are still largely neglected and; that lacking cooperation between responsible authorities cause undue suffering. Some of the aspects that have been addressed when examining the instruments and procedures dealing with child abduction are - interpretation issues, unintended consequences, why mothers abduct their children and domestic violence. The result of this inquiry is primarily a conclusion that further research on the sociological aspects of the phenomenon is necessary and that international as well as national legislation and social policy must adjust to manage problems and needs previously unforeseen.
