To get the answers for these questions I studied literature about the stepfamily, statistic, childrens need and the children perspective. I also gathered stories freely told from children and adults. The results showed that children and adults focused on the actual relation when they decribed the life in a stepfamily. They would rather answer the question " What is your family picture?" than "How is it to live in a stepfamily?" One word frequently used was "real", real mother, real father a.s.o. Real was used to describe the biologic relation but also the parental behaviour. It also seems like the quality of the relation was the most important not the biological fact. (Less)
