Abstract
The purpose of this essay was to examine how girls aged between 16-17, born in Iran and raised in Sweden, see themselves in relation to their families and the Swedish society. Some of the questions we asked ourselves were: how do the girls relate to the Iranian culture; have the girls ever faced discrimination; is there a conflict between the Iranian values the girls meet at home and the Swedish values they meet in school etc. We used a qualitative method and interviewed eight girls who all live in Malmö, all of the girls came to Sweden as young children and have since then lived in the Swedish society. We came to the conclusion that although there are big differences between the Iranian and Swedish cultures the girls can cope with it.... (More)

We came to the conclusion that although there are big differences between the Iranian and Swedish cultures the girls can cope with it. They sometimes feel that they don't belong in either one of them but for most of the time they adapt to whatever cultural situation they find themselves in. They know that racism and discrimination exist in the Swedish society but it won't stop them from achieving their goals. (Less)
