- Abstract
- American studies have shown that sexual abuse allegations within the family during divorce cases occur in the USA. No previous studies regarding this matter has been undertaken in Sweden. I therefore decided to investigate the occurrence of sexual abuse allegations in Sweden and more specifically in Helsingborg. My purpose was to find out the frequency of sexual abuse allegations within families represented at the family court in Helsingborg during the year 2002 and to find out who is doing the allegation and who is being accused. - American studies have shown that sexual abuse allegations within the family during divorce cases occur in the USA. No previous studies regarding this matter has been undertaken in Sweden. I therefore decided to investigate the occurrence of sexual abuse allegations in Sweden and more specifically in Helsingborg. My purpose was to find out the frequency of sexual abuse allegations within families represented at the family court in Helsingborg during the year 2002 and to find out who is doing the allegation and who is being accused. My study show that sexual abuse allegations during divorce and custody battles occurred in Helsingborg during the time period investigated. The allegations where sometimes true but in other cases false and most likely invented to be used as a weapon against the other parent in the divorce- and custody battle. The mothers generally accused the fathers of sexual abuse on the children. Children rarely disclosed the sexual abuse to the family court personnel. (Less)
