Theories of object relation, attachment and risk- and protective mechanisms were used in understanding the chosen subject and the vulnerable situation foster children are exposed to. Few personal interviews have been conducted on former foster children; therefore we had to use studies that were achieved through paper research and not through interviews. We found that the experience of being a foster child has profoundly affected the adults we interviewed. They have all been through separations and learnt to cope with them. A majority of the persons we interviewed spoke about a lack in sense of family belonging and the necessity to rely on oneself. They all thought that they lead a good life today, despite the unfortunate start they all had. (Less)
