I have approached the research with a qualitative method and interviewed three women and three men. To receive a theoretical background I studied medical and psychological literature related to the subject. The parents were chocked when they got the message that they shall have a premature child. The experience from the neonatology ward was positive for the majority of the parents and they thought that the staffs were educated and skilled. The parents got adequate help and support from the surrounding. My study shows that the men were more optimistic in the beginning, they supported the women. Both women and men supported each other and the relation was not influenced negative of the event. (Less)
