- Abstract
- This paper is about the hoplite army and the men in it who fought for their family and polis. I wanted to write this paper because I think that we get too little information about the ordinary men who fight in wars. In my conclusion I write that I think that the idea of fighting in a phalanx comes with the Greeks from Anatolia and the Levant with the trading in the early 8th century and that the typical hoplite panoply developed a little later. I also believe, like Sage, that there must have existed some form of practice in peace times to make the phalanx work in battle and so that the hoplites know how to handle a weapon. (Less)
