The purpose of this paper is to examine if the Swedish discourse concerning FGM/C can be seen as a link in the shaping of ones own identity. To investigate if this is the case I have used critical discourse analysis influenced by Norman Faircloughs three-dimensional model. I’ve also used postcolonial feminism as a kind of lens through which I’ve looked at the discourse. The discourse in this paper is constituted by documents from the government and the national board of health and welfare. It turned out that one can truly see that through the way one chooses to speak the FGM/C-discourse becomes a link in the construction of ones own identity though this is of course not the main purpose with the discourse.
