Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the prospects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) becoming a permanent variable in the way that companies and enterprises work. This is done through an analysis of altruism, self-interest and egoism in the business enterprise and its aims in the capitalistic market economy of today. The aim of this study is to examine the prospects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) becoming a permanent variable in the way that companies and enterprises work. This is done through an analysis of altruism, self-interest and egoism in the business enterprise and its aims in the capitalistic market economy of today. Examined are both the company from the inside, with conflicts of interest among actors, and the company from the outside and how it uses CSR today. The paper is theoretical and based on literature written about altruism, CSR and business enterprises.
Conclusions made are that business enterprises today are so convinced about the idea of the free market and the importance of maximum profit that CSR always will come second hand in the routine of everyday work. The conception of CSR as being a profit limiting factor is a major disadvantage in the argumentation about its importance and significance. The way for CSR to be incorporated in the mainstream enterprise of today is that this conception is changed into a conception where the altruistic becomes part of the self-interest of companies, and CSR is seen as beneficial.
