- Abstract
- Several previous studies have shown that Internet-based CBT can be an effective treatment of social phobia in adults. To what extent this treatment is applicable for adolescents is currently not clear. It is plausible, however, that a multimedia approach is suitable for this audience. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to design and evaluate a film consisting of educational material about social phobia and CBT. 259 participants, ages 16-20, watched the film. The participants
also answered a questionnaire consisting of (1) feedback items regarding the film and (2) attitudes toward psychotherapy, (3) items from an existing screening questionnaire for social phobia (SPSQ), (4) questions on content of the film, and (5) items... Results were compared across gender and ratings of social anxiety. Overall, feedback regarding the film was positive among both sexes, as well as among individuals with higher or lower social anxiety. Also, the Internet seems to be an important source of health information for adolescents, particularly for individuals with higher social anxiety. Guidelines for further development of the film are presented. (Less)
