- Abstract
- The cases of sexually transmitted diseases and abortions among teenagers in Sweden are increasing. Mainly among youth in the ages 15 to 24 years. Our purpose with this study was to look at the reason for this by answering the question; why do youth expose themselves to the risks associated with unprotected sex? To answer this question we chose to do a quantitative survey by letting students in Lund answer questionnaires. 100 students from 4 schools in Lund participated in the study. To analyze our results we used the health believe model. To analyze our results we used the health believe model. Together with our theory, previous research and our results from the questionnaires, we found that it does not seem to be lack of knowledge that makes the youth put themselves in these situations but rather a system of risk calculating and not seeing unprotected sex as a risk serious enough or concerning them. We also found that talking about condoms with a partner and asking to use a condom, is stigmatizing and embarrassing. Young people seem to think that we need to address the question about condoms more in school to make it less embarrassing and easier to talk about. If we could do something about that we would probably be a long way on the road to solve this problem. (Less)
