Abstract
The background to this master thesis is that various studies show that the milk consumption in Swedish schools is decreasing. Offering flavored milk will hopefully make milk more attractive.
The concept with flavored milk has previously been tested in a prestudy where a rig were made to test the basic idea. There is now an interest in taking the project to the next level by building a prototype. The work concludes developing a technical solution to dose a flavor to the milk. This will be made by rebuilding the existing door at the original Milkbar and there place the technical solution that is necessary to dose the flavors.

The master thesis which has taken place on the company 2B Technology AB in Lund has been performed on the basis of the Ulrich and Eppinger method. However in this project we already had an existing Milkbar, which had the consequence that the method was adjusted to our specific case. The first phase in the work consisted of a prestudy where the work was divided into different sub problems which were studied. Thereafter a number of suggestions of solutions were created and these were thoroughly evaluated before a final solution was chosen. Finally, construction drawings and production costs were made to form the basis before the prototype was created.
The finished prototype was used in a functional test in the company dining-room in order to secure the function and to discover possible defects of the construction. After that, two field tests were made on the schools Fäladsgården and Spyken in Lund. The purpose was to see how the students and the personal was handling the machine and examine if there were any changes in the milk consumption during the test period, which was four days in each school.
With the prototype we have shown that the concept with flavored milk where milk and flavors have been dosed separately and mixed in the glass is working properly. It has also been showed that it is possible to place the technical solution in a new door at the existing Milkbar. This makes it possible to replace the door on the machines that currently exists at the schools.
A large increase in milk consumption has been noted during the two field tests. In order to get a more secure measure it will probably take a longer test period, maybe for a couple of months. However, the signals we have received and the answers we got on the questionnaire we used indicate that flavored milk is very popular and should, most likely increase the milk consumption. (Less)
