Abstract (Swedish)
The following essay studies how the migration politic, as a national area of politic, constructs and re-constructs the European and Swedish identity to legitimate the supranational politic within the EU. My study is accomplished through a discourse analysis combined by a social constructivism theory, specialized in identity construction and examines the identity construction in articles written by the Swedish migration minister.
My results show how the issue of the increasing immigration in Sweden is considered as a problem that Sweden wants to solve but can’t operate. The following essay studies how the migration politic, as a national area of politic, constructs and re-constructs the European and Swedish identity to legitimate the supranational politic within the EU. My study is accomplished through a discourse analysis combined by a social constructivism theory, specialized in identity construction and examines the identity construction in articles written by the Swedish migration minister.
My results show how the issue of the increasing immigration in Sweden is considered as a problem that Sweden wants to solve but can’t operate. The Swedish identity is reconstructed in terms of humanity and generosity and Sweden who is self declared of having one of the most generous asylum system in the world, have been playing an active part in the harmonization of the migration politic in the EU. The definition of migration as the problem facing Sweden is operating as a legitimization to increase the harmonization of the migration politic in the EU. The European co-operation is defined by terms of solidarity, responsibility distribution and is working to set the standards to which political actions that are considered to be natural and logical.
