Abstract
The main purpose of this study has been to get an insight to the Roma people’s approach to integration. By identifying different discourses in the Roma magazine É Romani Glinda, attempts were done to find patterns in how the perceptions of integration are constructed. The main purpose of this study has been to get an insight to the Roma people’s approach to integration. By identifying different discourses in the Roma magazine É Romani Glinda, attempts were done to find patterns in how the perceptions of integration are constructed. This has been done on the basis of discourse analysis with a strong emphasis on social constructivism. Contradictions in how the concept of integration is perceived is highlighted and discussed. Theories of integration have also been applied to the discourses, this in an attempt to clarify possible links between them and already existing integration theories.

One of the principal findings of the study was that the discourses in the magazine had a strong inclination towards the differences between the Roma people and the majority society. For example was this demonstrated by the emphasis on discrimination, ideas of separation and distrust towards the majority society that were seen in the discourses. Some of the localized discourses were partially surrounded by conflictive opinions. An example of this was the worries about assimilation which often were expressed together with what can be seen as a more integration friendly approach. (Less)
