Abstract
In this thesis, I have, from a feminist view of family theories, welfare state theories and work life theories, visualized how parenthood and work life practices are experienced and interpreted. My research question is ‘how are family practices and work practices told to have contributed to my interviewees’ life courses and how can these practices be related to the social context’. Through life story interviews, I have collected four individuals’ experiences. I have analyzed my empirical material hermeneutically and contextualized the analysis in contemporary society. I have found that societal ideals have influenced my interviewees’ choice of profession and family practices, to be in line with what is expected. More equal power relations... (More)

More equal power relations between the spouses tend to make it easier for the women to invest in work life and easier for the man to invest in family life. Support from their partners reveals them from family obligations and child care and make it possible for them to arrange changes for themselves. (Less)
