What kinds of methods are used when working with parents within the organization? Our study is based on six interviews with directors, managers and counselors in an organization in two different countries, Australia and United States of America. We wanted to do a comparison between to similar organizations in two different counties; we chose Australia, Sydney and United States of America, Hawaii, Honolulu. After the interviews we translated our material into four different themes so that we could analyze it. We have been using the social constructionism theory and Payne’s discourse theory. The final result of our study showed that the organizations expect parents to be involved and engaged in their child’s treatment. Both organizations understand the importance of the parent’s participation in how to achieve the best results for the child and the family. (Less)
