Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine how mothers from 30 to 35 years living in a big city felt that stress and status affects their everyday lives and health. My questions was how mothers feel and handling requirements in relation to family life and parenting versus career, the demands on the mothers themselves, and how mothers look at the link between stress and status? I wanted to explore the experience of the requirements and how the mothers handled this and how stress and status affect their daily lives and health? This study is an empirical and qualitative study based on interviews with five mothers with children 0-5 years, residing in Stockholm. This study is an empirical and qualitative study based on interviews with five mothers with children 0-5 years, residing in Stockholm. Both Swedish and foreign research is the basis for this analysis. The analysis was based on two theoretical starting points, the dramaturgical theory and women's role theory. The interviewed mothers picture of ideal mothers, as the media presents, led to stress of their daily lives. Awareness of this paradox resulted in less anxious mothers in this study. All the interviewed mothers put very high demands on themselves. To make both a career and being a good mother was a complex paradox for the mothers in this study. Previous research used in this study show the same results. Help and support from the father, family, friends and society reduce mothers stress and improves health. (Less)
