- Abstract
- In this study the possibilities for a new steam boiler and a replacement of the old back pressure turbine at AAK Karlshamn are investigated. AAK is a company that refines vegetable oils and one of the factories is in the town Karlshamn in Sweden. At AAK Karlshamn process steam and electricity is generated in a cogeneration facility whit several boilers and a back pressure turbine. To continue whit a reliable steam generation and electricity production a new boiler and steam turbine are required. There are many alternatives for the new boiler and turbine, for example the choice of boiler pressure and superheater temperature and the number of bleeds or extractions from the turbine. For estimation of electricity production and steam demand the power plants simulation program IPSEpro is used. At first a simulation of today’s cogeneration facility was done as a base for the continued simulations of the future alternatives. The results from the simulations of the different solutions were then regarded in the decision of which alternatives to continue whit. To discuss the different alternatives and get a better idea of which specifications for the boiler and turbine that is reasonable contact was taken whit manufacturers of boilers and steam turbines. For the turbine Siemens in Finspång, Sweden was contacted and data for the use of process steam were used for their calculations resulting in a suggestion of a turbine. Some questions were sent to the steam boiler manufacturer MW Power in Finland to check if the specifications of the turbine also were realistic for the boiler. No clear choice of boiler or turbine has resulted from this study. The communication whit manufacturers of boilers and turbines has only begun and a big amount of technical and economical calculations is to be done. (Less)
