Abstract
Today the tradition of bathing is often reduced to a necessity rather than one of re-laxation, and the development of the bathroom has been slow compared to other as-pects of a modern home.

The object of this thesis is to develop a product, designed for the bathroom, which in some way or another emphasizes the impression of recreation. The product is devel-oped in collaboration with sandellsandberg, a Stockholm based architectural firm.

The project follows the process of design methodology. First a design brief is put together to constitute a mission statement for the project.

Miscellaneous research is carried out during the process, and to establish customer needs a questionnaire is made and distributed over the internet. Relaxation is an im-portant aspect in the bathroom and there is a need of innovative and aesthetically appealing storage products. As a result this thesis will focus on this kind of products.

Further research concerning the market, measurements and materials is made and a function analysis is composed. To help target the future product, an image board is put together to visualize chosen inspirational themes.

Ideas are generated with different brainstorming methods. The ideas are then devel-oped into different concepts. The concepts are evaluated and developed further.

The final concept can be seen as a modern interpretation of a gentlemen’s valet. A wooden pole made of alder supports two enameled metal bowls and an enameled aluminum towel hanger. The pole itself is held up by an enameled metal stand.

The valet is placed near the bathtub or the shower and holds your towel while bath-ing. The bowls hold the shampoo bottles and the soap. That way, it’s easy to reach the towel and the shampoo.

A prototype is made by Sjölinder Snickeri, a cabinet making firm in Stockholm.

A product inventory is carried out to determine possible products for a future product line for sandellsandberg. A preliminary business plan is written. (Less)
