Empirical data was gathered through two group interviews, one with management staff and one with care staff, in which matters of quality and competence in relation to the group home as a work place was discussed. The data was subsequently analyzed from a social constructionist point of view and with the use of domain theory. The analysis shows that there are similarities in way the both groups discuss central values and policies, but that differences show when it comes to the order of how the organization is ideally set up. The most salient finding, however, has been that of an ongoing conflict between the highly valued idea of quality as service user involvement and of situations in which said involvement has to be compromised, primarily when the service user's wishes or actions are estimated as contra productive. These situations are thought of as difficult to cope with and it appears as though both management and staff are in need of an appropriate discourse and vocabulary as a means to efficiently preempt and handle the difficulties regarding service user involvement as they arise.
