- Abstract
- The aim of this thesis is to investigate the ways the Common European Asylum System is portrayed from security and human rights perspectives. In order to do this the author conducts a case study of two main legislative acts in the area of asylum in the EU – the Dublin II Regulation and the Eurodac Regulation and proceeds with a discourse analysis of texts taken from different sources – European Commission and Member States, NGOs and UNHCR and media. The framework for the analysis is the Copenhagen School of Security Studies with its concepts of securitization and de-securitization.
