Theese meetings are often between one employee and the manager alone, but sometimes the manager decides to have one or two meetings in larger groups instead of having one meeting with each employee. The aim of this study was to examine how the managers interpreted the purpose of such meetings, and how their interpretation could motivate having the meetings in groups instead of individually. A second purpose was to examine how the managers looked at their own role in such meetings. The study is based on qualitative interviews with six midline mangagers in a midsized municipality in Sweden. In the analysis I used theoretical perspectives from Bolman and Deals organization theory to clarify the data and to get a better understanding of how the managers interpretation of the purpose of the meetings differed. I also used the theory to examine the various roles that the managers stated to have in the meetings. The result showed that the way the managers interpreted the meetings purpose also had an impact on how they choose to form the meetings, in group or individually. The result also showed that the different roles that the managers claim they had in the meetings could be interpreted as consequense of how they interpreted the role of the meeting itself. (Less)
