- Abstract (Swedish)
- Sweden is a country that offers a home for thousands of immigrants each year. The year of 2009 Sweden broke its record; the country had never before accepted as many immigrants as it did that year. One can imagine that a country with a high number of immigrants is also highly integrated and provides work for the majority of these newly arrived members of the population - but in Sweden this is not the case. The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate which obstacles female immigrants face when trying to enter the Swedish labour market, and what these obstacles consist of. The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate which obstacles female immigrants face when trying to enter the Swedish labour market, and what these obstacles consist of. To do this we conducted five qualitative interviews with female immigrants that live in Sweden. During these interviews we found out that all of the women had faced several difficulties when trying to get a job, and they all shared similar experiences. The main issues concerned prejudices, lack of useful contacts and difficulties with the Swedish language. It is a fact that employment is an important part of the integration process, and therefore being unemployed results in a lack of integration. Since employment also contributes to interaction with other people, and interaction itself is a crucial part of the integration process, again; unemployment leads to lack of integration. This means that in order for immigrants to be fully integrated with society, they need to be permitted into the labour market. (Less)
