- Abstract
- This paper examines how different variables affect the ticket price, using three different hypotheses. The first is how price is affected by time between ticket purchase and retirement. The second hypothesis tests the price changes in relation to the distance between destinations and the third hypothesis is testing whether competition has any role in the various cities.
The various hypotheses are examined by means of price download on the Internet and the use of statistical methods, providing different types of charts and tables with the help of microeconomic theory later analyzed to obtain a fruitful scientific results.

This paper will focus on SJ, but also on its competitors in the train as well as aviation and the bus. The geographical focus of the trips will be mainly between the three largest cities in Sweden, Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm.
Thesis resulted is that the price was affected by all variables that were investigated, though to different degrees. SJ as a profit-maximizing firm with high market power they determine prices similar to an aggressive pricing discriminating policy. (Less)
