En revolterande generation? Kvinnospråkets utveckling i japanskan
(2010) JAPK11 20101Japanese Studies
- Abstract
- Women’s language has been closely observed and criticized for several centuries in Japan. Its actual speech forms as well as their functions are constantly transforming. Even today young Japanese women’s way of speaking is often disapproved of and criticized for being too masculine. Many voices can be heard speaking of this development. In addition to the opinions of the masses this thesis will look into what the subject itself – the young Japanese woman – has to say about the “masculinisation” of Japanese women’s language. If we consider these attitudes we may perhaps be able to gain some knowledge of why the young Japanese women of today choose to speak in a more masculine manner than they are expected to.
