Abstract (Swedish)
Två instrument användes; Interpretation of Intrusions Inventory (III-31) och Symtom checklist... (More)

Två instrument användes; Interpretation of Intrusions Inventory (III-31) och Symtom checklist 90 (SCL-90). (Less)
Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to explore the possible relation between appraisals of intrusions and psychological symptoms. This included an analysis of how the following variables; 1) the belief domain responsibility, 2) the belief domain control/importance,
3) frequency, 4) recency, 5) level of distress when experiencing intrusions and 6) different themes of intrusions, were related to psychological symptoms. This was investigated by reviewing theories on the subject and by using quantitative as well as qualitative metho-dology. The participants were 89 individuals, 37 percent were men and 63 percent were women. Ages of the participants ranged from 18 to 65+ years. Two instruments were used; Interpretation of Intrusions... Two instruments were used; Interpretation of Intrusions Inventory (III-31) and Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90). Positive correlations were found between the belief domains of intrusions, frequency of intrusions, level of distress when experiencing intrusions and all symptoms on SCL- 90. No correlations were found between recency of intrusions and symptoms. Themes of intrusion had different means on Global Severity Index (GSI) in SCL-90. These results support the conclusion that intrusions are to be considered a transdiagnostic process. This indicates usefulness and benefit of a joint treatment manual for dysfunctional appraisals and belief domains of intrusions. (Less)
