- The purpose of this study was to examine voluntary organizations’ lobbying around hiv and aids in Sweden and to compare how organizational conditions influence this work. To do so I have analyzed two different Swedish organizations, RFSU and Noaks Ark Stockholm. They are both working with lobbying around hiv and aids but have at the same time different organizational conditions for this work. - The purpose of this study was to examine voluntary organizations’ lobbying around hiv and aids in Sweden and to compare how organizational conditions influence this work. To do so I have analyzed two different Swedish organizations, RFSU and Noaks Ark Stockholm. They are both working with lobbying around hiv and aids but have at the same time different organizational conditions for this work. More specifically the purpose was to study the two organizations and their work around lobbying and compare how employees from both organizations think about this work and their conditions to work with lobbying. The purpose was also to analyze if any special organizational conditions influenced their work around lobbying towards the general public, decision makers and politicians. The study was based upon qualitative interviews with two respondents from each organization and upon documents that was made by the organizations and that in different ways described their work around lobbying. The analysis was based upon a theoretical model by the Swedish political scientist Olof Petersson. The model was originally made to analyze political parties and points out five different areas that are particularly important when working around lobbying. The analysis showed that the two organizations and their work in many ways had both similarities and differences. A conclusion was that seven organizational conditions had a strong influence on the work around lobbying for both organizations: funding (where the organization get their money from), orientation (if the organization only work around hiv or if it works from a broader perspective), location (if the organization works locally or nationally), organizational structure (a memberorganization or a foundation), the history (how long the organization has existed), clinical work (if the organization combine their work around lobbying with clinical work) and relations to surrounding actors (the relations with other organizations and with the state). Even if there is no right or wrong way to work in, the study emphasizes the importance to take organizational conditions in consideration when working around lobbying. (Less)
