- Abstract
- This thesis estimates the risk of the activity at the oil depot in Örfirisey and its location, to its nearby population. The thesis will consider possible risks from the oil depot it self in case of fire, today, in relation to health and safety. Transportation of the fuel from the depot through the city will be discussed in an attempt to see if other depot locations or strategies can lessen the risk involved. The method used in this thesis is the Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis model or CPQRA. Evaluation of the risk was mostly based on individual risk and societal risk. Tolerable risk and risk perception is briefly discussed as well as uncertainty. The attempt to reduce the risk or control it is examined later on in the thesis.... (More)

Finally future alternatives are discussed for ODR to put up other smaller depots outside the capital area, beside the depot in Örfirisey, to minimize the transportation of the fuel through the city of Reykjavík.
