- Abstract
- Smoke spread via ventilation systems relying on running fans or bypasses can be calculated with performance based fire safety analyses tools. The focus of this thesis work was to review existing methods for treating this problem and to further develop current analysis methods. Suggestions are also made for setting up guidelines as to what are tolerable amounts of smoke spread depending on building type and the activity in the building. With the methods developed a number of practical
systems have been assessed. Parametric studies have been performed to study how different system changes affect the possibility to prevent smoke spread via ventilation ducts.
